April showers bring Gardening and Healthy Eating Programs to Parlin-Ingersoll Public Library. Every Monday evening in April from 6:30-7:30 p.m. the library will host a program on a topic of interest on gardening and healthy eating.
On April 7 Linda Prescott of Prescott Farms will speak on Preserving the Harvest. Linda is a regular at the Canton Farmer’s Market each summer and will speak on canning and preserving techniques.
On April 14 Leslie Rusch-Bayer, BASC, RD, CPT of the Couri Center in Peoria will speak on the impact nutrition has on chronic disease. Leslie grew up in Canton and has degrees in both Exercise Science and Nutrition. Disease prevention through nutrition and lifestyle modifications are passions of hers. She is happy to return to her hometown to answer questions and share her knowledge.
On April 21 Jeff Bash of Spoon River College will speak on Extending your Growing Season in the Vegetable Garden. Jeff regularly sells at the Canton Farmer’s Market and will offer tips on selling your own local produce.
On April 28 Joe Murphy will be speaking on Planting by the Lunar Phase. Joe utilizes this method and tips from the almanacs in his own planting. He has supplied produce to restaurants as well as individuals at the Canton Farmer’s Market each summer at Jones Park.
